Potato gratin
Cheesy Potato Gratin, ideal for a comforting side dish:
Ingredients:
– 3 lbs potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet), thinly sliced
– 2 cups heavy cream
– 1 cup whole milk
– 3 garlic cloves, minced
– 1 tsp salt
– 1/2 tsp black pepper
– 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)
– 2 cups shredded cheese (Gruyère, Cheddar, or a combination)
– 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
– 1 tbsp butter (for greasing)
– 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional garnish)
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven: Set the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
2. Prepare the cream mixture: In a saucepan, mix together the heavy cream, milk, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using). Warm the mixture gently over medium heat until it is just heated through.
3. Layer the potatoes: Place a layer of potato slices in the baking dish and sprinkle some shredded cheese on top. Continue layering until all the potatoes and cheese are used, saving some cheese for the final layer.
4. Add the cream mixture: Pour the warm cream mixture over the layered potatoes, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
5. Top with cheese: Add the reserved shredded cheese and Parmesan on top of the gratin.
6. Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 40 minutes. After that, remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
7. Cool and serve: Allow the gratin to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. If desired, garnish with fresh parsley.
Savor this rich and cheesy potato gratin as a delightful side for any meal!
