Apple cake

Ingredients
Β½ cup butter, at room temperature
1 β
cup sugar
2 eggs
1 Β½ teaspoons vanilla extract
1 Β½ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 Β½ teaspoons ground cinnamon
Β½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
3 cups diced and peeled apples (approximately 2 large apples of your choice)
Optional: ΒΌ cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Caramel
1 β
cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons half-and-half
4 tablespoons butter
Preparation
Begin by preheating the oven to 350 degrees F and greasing a 9-inch springform pan thoroughly.
In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg, sifting them together.
In a larger bowl, cream the butter and sugar until smooth, then incorporate the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined, then gently fold in the apples and nuts if desired.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 35-40 minutes while you prepare the caramel.
For the caramel: start preparing it when the cake has been baking for 30 minutes.
