Scalloped Potatoes Recipe
*Ingredients
4 cups thinly sliced potatoes
3 tbsp butter
1 1⁄2 cups milk
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
1⁄2 cup grated cheese (cheddar or Gruyere) for topping
Salt to taste
Optional: 1/2 cup sliced green onions, pinch of cayenne pepper
****Instructions**:**
Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C) and greasing a baking dish.
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until it turns golden.
Slowly add the milk while stirring continuously, and let it simmer until the sauce thickens.
Remove from heat and mix in the sharp cheddar cheese, salt, and optional cayenne pepper until the mixture is smooth.
Place half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish and pour half of the cheese sauce over them.
Add the remaining potatoes and cover with the rest of the sauce.
Top with the additional grated cheese.
Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes.
