Fluffy Biscuits Recipe
Ingredients:
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 1 tablespoon baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 cup cold butter, diced into small cubes
– 3/4 cup buttermilk (or regular milk as a substitute)
– 1 egg (optional, for glazing the tops)
Instructions:
1. Begin by preheating the oven to 425°F (220°C) and lining a baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Combine the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
3. Incorporate the butter: Add the cold butter cubes to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the butter resembles small peas.
4. Mix in the buttermilk: Gradually pour in the buttermilk and stir until the dough forms, taking care not to overmix.
5. Shape and cut the biscuits: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and gently pat it to a thickness of about 1/2 inch. Use a round cutter or a glass to cut out the biscuits and arrange them on the prepared baking sheet.
6. Optional – Egg wash: For a golden finish, beat an egg and lightly brush it over the tops of the biscuits.
7. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits achieve a golden brown color.
8. Serve warm with butter or jam.
