Patty melt
Patty Melt with Secret Sauce:
Ingredients:
For the Patty Melts:
1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)
4 slices of Swiss cheese (or your preferred cheese like cheddar or American)
1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
4 slices of rye bread (or sourdough if you prefer)
2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
Salt and pepper (to taste)
For the Secret Sauce:
¼ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon mustard (yellow or Dijon)
1 tablespoon pickle relish
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, for extra flavor)
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions:
Secret Sauce:
1. In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, pickle relish, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and Worcestershire sauce.
2. Stir well until fully combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Set aside or refrigerate.
Onions:
1. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
2. Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown and caramelized. Set aside.
Patties:
1. Divide the ground beef into 2 equal portions and shape them into flat, thin patties, slightly larger than your bread (as they will shrink when cooking).
2. Season each side of the patties with salt and pepper.
3. In the same skillet used for the onions, cook the patties over medium-high heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked to your desired doneness.
4. Add a slice of Swiss cheese to each patty during the last minute of cooking to let it melt.
Assemble the Patty Melt:
1. Butter one side of each slice of bread.
2. On the non-buttered side of the bread, spread a generous layer of the secret sauce.
3. Place the patty with melted cheese on one slice of the bread. Add caramelized onions on top of the patty.
4. Top with the second slice of bread, butter side facing out.
Grill the Patty Melt:
1. Heat the remaining tablespoon of butter in the skillet over medium heat.
2. Place the sandwich in the skillet and cook until the bread is golden and crispy, about 2-3 minutes per side.
3. Press down slightly with a spatula while cooking for a crispier texture.
Serve:
1. Slice the patty melt in half and serve with more secret sauce for dipping, along with fries or a side salad.
Enjoy your Patty Melt with Secret Sauce!
