Cheesesteak
Philly Cheesesteak recipe with all the details:
Ingredients:
8 ounces Ribeye steak, thinly sliced
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt, divided
1/4 teaspoon coarse ground black pepper, divided
1 tablespoon canola oil
1/2 large onion, thinly sliced
1/2 green bell pepper, thinly sliced (optional, for a classic touch)
4 slices Provolone cheese (or Cheez Whiz for the original Philly style)
2 hoagie rolls or long sandwich rolls, split open
Optional: Mushrooms or hot peppers for topping
Instructions:
1. Prep the Steak: Season the thinly sliced ribeye steak with half of the kosher salt and black pepper.
2. Cook the Vegetables: In a large skillet, heat the canola oil over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion (and bell pepper, if using) to the pan. Sauté for 4-5 minutes until softened and caramelized. Set the vegetables aside.
3. Cook the Steak: In the same skillet, add the sliced ribeye steak. Cook for 2-3 minutes until browned. Season with the remaining salt and pepper.
4. Combine Steak and Veggies: Add the cooked onions (and bell pepper) back into the skillet with the steak. Stir everything together and cook for another 1-2 minutes to combine the flavors.
5. Melt the Cheese: Place slices of Provolone cheese (or Cheez Whiz) on top of the steak and vegetable mixture. Let it melt for 1-2 minutes. You can also cover the pan with a lid to speed up the melting process.
6. Assemble the Sandwich: Scoop the cheesy steak mixture into the split hoagie rolls.
7. Serve: Serve the Philly cheesesteak hot, and enjoy!
Feel free to add mushrooms, hot peppers, or even more cheese for extra flavor!
Note: For an authentic Philly experience, you can skip the bell pepper and stick with just steak, onions, and Cheez Whiz.
