Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast

Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast (A Timeless Favorite)
Ingredients:
1 jar (2.5 oz) dried beef slices, thoroughly rinsed and chopped
4 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
A dash of cayenne pepper (optional)
2 cups milk (preferably whole milk)
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
Toasted bread (for serving)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Beef: Rinse the dried beef under cold water to eliminate excess salt. Pat it dry and chop into small pieces.
2. Create the Roux: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes until a smooth roux forms.
3. Incorporate Milk: Gradually add the milk while whisking to prevent lumps. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens.
4. Season the Sauce: Mix in the cayenne pepper, black pepper, and a small pinch of salt, being cautious as the dried beef is already salty.
5. Add the Beef: Stir in the chopped dried beef and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
6. Serve: Ladle the creamed chipped beef over toasted bread and savor!
Tip: For an added depth of flavor, consider including a splash of Worcestershire sauce or a dash of paprika.
