Chocolate Cake

Chocolate Cake topped with Creamy Chocolate Frosting.

Ingredients for the Chocolate Cake:
– 2 cups all-purpose flour
– 2 cups granulated sugar
– ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
– 2 teaspoons baking powder
– 1½ teaspoons baking soda
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1 cup whole milk
– ½ cup vegetable oil
– 2 large eggs
– 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
– 1 cup boiling water

Ingredients for the Creamy Chocolate Frosting:
– 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
– 3½ cups powdered sugar
– ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
– ½ teaspoon salt
– ½ cup heavy cream
– 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Cake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract, then mix on medium speed until well combined. Gradually add the boiling water, mixing until the batter is smooth (it will be thin). Evenly distribute the batter between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

2. Prepare the Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until it becomes creamy and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Gradually add the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt, mixing on low speed until combined. Then, add the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Increase the mixer speed to high and beat for 2-3 minutes until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.

3. Assemble the Cake: Place one layer of the cake on a serving plate. Generously spread frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides evenly. Optionally, you can decorate with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or a drizzle of ganache. Allow the cake to set for 30 minutes before slicing and serving.

Indulge in this rich and moist layered chocolate cake, complemented by its creamy frosting! Would you like to explore a variation, such as adding a filling?
