Cheesy Sausage Puff Pastry Rolls:
Ingredients:
– 1 lb ground sausage (choose mild, spicy, or your preferred variety)
– 1 cup shredded cheese (options include cheddar, mozzarella, or a combination)
– 2 sheets of thawed puff pastry
– 1 beaten egg (for egg wash)
– 1 tsp dried parsley or Italian seasoning (optional, for added flavor)
– Salt and black pepper, to taste
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Sausage Filling:
In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until it is browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
Allow the sausage to cool slightly, then combine it with the shredded cheese. If desired, add parsley, salt, and pepper for extra flavor.
2. Prepare the Puff Pastry:
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets. Cut each sheet into three equal rectangles.
3. Assemble the Rolls:
Place a line of the sausage and cheese mixture along the long edge of each rectangle.
Carefully roll the pastry around the filling, sealing the edges by pinching or brushing with the beaten egg.
4. Cut and Glaze:
Slice each roll into 2-3 inch pieces and arrange them seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Brush the tops with the beaten egg to achieve a golden, shiny finish.
5. Bake:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until they are puffed and golden brown.
