Ciabatta Bread

Ciabatta Bread:
Ingredients:
– 4 cups (500g) all-purpose flour
– 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
– 1 teaspoon sugar
– 1 teaspoon instant yeast
– 1 3/4 cups (420ml) warm water (approximately 110°F/43°C)
– 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
– In a large bowl, mix together the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
– Pour in the warm water and olive oil. Use a wooden spoon to stir until a sticky dough is formed.
– Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a damp cloth and allow it to rise at room temperature for 1-2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
2. Fold the Dough:
– After the dough has risen, generously flour your work surface.
– Carefully turn the dough out onto the floured surface, taking care not to deflate it.
– With well-floured hands, stretch the dough slightly and fold it into thirds, similar to folding a letter. Repeat this process once or twice.
3. Second Rise:
– Transfer the folded dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
– Lightly dust the top with flour and cover it loosely with a towel.
– Allow the dough to rise again for about 30-40 minutes.
4. Bake:
– Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and place an empty baking dish or pan on the bottom rack.
– Just before baking, pour a cup of water into the hot pan to create steam, which will help achieve a crusty exterior.
– Bake the bread on the middle rack for 20-25 minutes, or until it is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
– Allow the bread to cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
Enjoy your homemade ciabatta bread, which is ideal for sandwiches, dipping in olive oil, or serving alongside soups!
