Instructions
1. Preheat the oven: Begin by setting your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper, allowing some overhang for easy removal.
2. Prepare the base: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the crushed pretzels, melted butter, and granulated sugar until well mixed. Firmly press this mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to form an even layer, using the back of a spoon or your hands to smooth it out. Bake for 8-10 minutes, then allow it to cool completely.
3. Create the caramel layer: In a microwave-safe bowl, mix the caramel bits with the heavy cream. Heat the mixture in 20-second intervals, stirring in between, until it becomes smooth and melted. Pour the caramel over the cooled pretzel base, spreading it evenly, and let it set for about 10 minutes.
4. Prepare the chocolate layer: In another microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips along with the oil in 20-second intervals, stirring until the mixture is smooth. Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer, spreading it evenly with an offset spatula.
5. Add optional toppings: While the chocolate is still warm, you can sprinkle additional crushed pretzels or sea salt flakes on top for extra texture and flavor.
6. Chill and set: Place the baking pan in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or until the chocolate has hardened.
7. Cut and serve: Use the parchment overhang to lift the bars out of the pan. Cut into squares or bars.
