Ingredients:
– 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
– 1 large onion, thinly sliced
– 2 tbsp vegetable oil
– 3 garlic cloves, minced
– 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced
– 1/4 cup soy sauce
– 2 tbsp oyster sauce
– 1 tbsp hoisin sauce (optional)
– 1 tbsp rice vinegar
– 1/2 tsp sugar
– 1/4 tsp black pepper
– 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
– 1/4 cup water
– 2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (for thickening)
– Chopped green onions (for garnish)
– Cooked rice (for serving)
Instructions:
1. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, mix the sliced beef with 1 tbsp of soy sauce, 1 tbsp cornstarch, and 1/4 tsp black pepper. Allow it to marinate for 10-15 minutes.
2. Prepare the Sauce: In a separate bowl, combine the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce (if using), rice vinegar, sugar, and water. Set this mixture aside.
3. Stir-Fry the Beef: Heat 1 tbsp of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
4. Sauté the Onions: In the same skillet, add the remaining oil. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften. Then, add the garlic and ginger, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes.
5. Combine Ingredients: Return the beef to the skillet and pour in the prepared sauce. Stir to coat the beef and onions evenly. Add the cornstarch slurry and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until the sauce thickens and the beef is fully cooked.
6. Serve: Garnish with chopped green onions and serve over cooked rice. Enjoy your flavorful Chinese-inspired beef and onion stir-fry!
