Sweetened Condensed Milk
Ingredients:
– 1 cup whole milk (or evaporated milk for a denser consistency)
– 1 cup granulated sugar
– 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
– 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions:
1. Combine Milk and Sugar: In a medium saucepan, blend the milk and sugar together. Set the saucepan over medium heat.
2. Cook and Stir: Heat the mixture while continuously stirring to ensure the sugar dissolves completely. Allow it to reach a gentle simmer.
3. Thicken the Mixture: Lower the heat and let it simmer softly for approximately 35–40 minutes. Stir occasionally to avoid burning. The mixture should thicken and reduce to about 1 cup.
4. Add Butter and Vanilla: After thickening, remove the saucepan from the heat and incorporate the butter and vanilla extract (if desired).
5. Cool and Store: Allow the sweetened condensed milk to cool entirely before transferring it to a clean jar or container. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
