Air fryer meringues

Air Fryer Meringues, which are crisp on the exterior and soft with a marshmallow-like texture on the interior, is presented below:

Ingredients:

– 3 large egg whites, at room temperature
– 3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
– 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar (optional, for added stability)
– 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (or any preferred flavoring)

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Egg Whites:

Ensure that both the mixing bowl and whisk are thoroughly clean and free of grease.

Begin beating the egg whites at medium speed until they become frothy.

2. Incorporate Cream of Tartar (Optional):

If desired, add cream of tartar to enhance the stability of the meringue, and continue beating until soft peaks are achieved.

3. Gradually Add Sugar:

Increase the mixer speed to high and slowly incorporate the sugar, one tablespoon at a time.

Continue to beat the mixture until it becomes glossy and stiff peaks form. (The whisk should be able to be held upside down without the meringue falling off.)

4. Flavor and Pipe:

Gently fold in the vanilla extract.

Transfer the meringue mixture into a piping bag fitted with a star or round tip, or alternatively, spoon the mixture onto parchment paper that fits your air fryer basket.

5. Preheat the Air Fryer:

Preheat your air fryer to 250°F (120°C) for 3 to 5 minutes.

6. Cook the Meringues:

Place the parchment paper with the meringue dollops into the air fryer basket.

Cook for 40 minutes at 250°F (120°C). Refrain from opening the air fryer during this period to avoid cracking.

7. Cool the Meringues:

Once cooking is complete, turn off the air fryer but allow the meringues to remain inside for an additional 10 to 15 minutes to cool gradually and dry out further.

Tips:

Ensure that no egg yolk contaminates the egg whites, as this will hinder the meringue from whipping effectively.

For colorful meringues, gently fold in a drop or two of food coloring before piping.
