Cheesy Potato Sausage Casserole
Ingredients:
1 pound (450 g) of smoked sausage (sliced)
4 medium potatoes (peeled and thinly sliced)
1 medium onion (chopped)
2 cups (480 ml) of shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
1 can (10.5 oz or 300 g) of cream of chicken soup
1 cup (240 ml) of milk
1 teaspoon of garlic powder
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon of olive oil
Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)
Instructions:
Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare the Casserole Dish:
Grease a 9×13-inch (23×33 cm) baking dish with non-stick cooking spray or butter.
Cook the Sausage:
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
Layer the Ingredients:
Arrange half of the sliced potatoes in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the chopped onion over the potatoes.
Add Sausage and Cheese:
Distribute half of the cooked sausage over the potatoes, followed by half of the shredded cheddar cheese.
Repeat Layers:
Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, onion, sausage, and cheddar cheese.
Prepare the Sauce:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth. Pour the mixture evenly over the layered ingredients in the casserole dish.
Bake:
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serve:
Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired. Enjoy your delicious cheesy potato sausage casserole!
