Rolls
rolls
Ingredients:
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
1 cup warm milk (around 110°F or 43°C)
¼ cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
Sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions:
1. Activate the Yeast:
In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy and bubbly, indicating the yeast is activated.
2. Prepare the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, mix the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, egg, and softened butter.
Mix until a dough forms. You can use a stand mixer with a dough hook or knead by hand on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
3. First Rise:
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
4. Shape the Rolls:
After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 12-15 equal pieces (depending on the size you prefer).
Shape each piece into a ball and place them in a greased baking dish or tray, slightly spaced apart.
5. Second Rise:
Cover the tray with a towel and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
6. Bake:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (180°C).
If you want to add sesame seeds, brush the rolls with melted butter and sprinkle the seeds on top.
Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown on top.
7. Finish:
After removing the rolls from the oven, brush them with more melted butter to give them a soft, shiny finish.
