Old Fashioned Goulash
Ingredients:
1 pound elbow macaroni
2 pounds ground beef
1 onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
1 (15 oz) can diced tomatoes (optional)
1 ½ cups water or beef broth
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
1-2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
Instructions:
1. Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the elbow macaroni until al dente, according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
2. Brown the beef: In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
3. Sauté the onion and garlic: Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the beef. Cook for 3-5 minutes until softened.
4. Add tomato sauce and seasoning: Stir in the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes (if using), water or beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes.
5. Combine pasta and beef mixture: Add the cooked macaroni to the beef mixture. Stir well to combine. Let everything cook together for 5-10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
6. Optional cheese topping: If you like it cheesy, sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top, cover, and let it melt for a few minutes before serving.
