Amish Baked Custard
Ingredients:
4 large eggs
3 cups whole milk
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until fully combined.
Pour the custard mixture into a round baking dish or individual ramekins.
Sprinkle the top lightly with ground nutmeg.
Place the baking dish or ramekins in a larger baking pan and add hot water to the pan until it comes halfway up the sides of the custard dish(es).
Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the custard is set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
Remove from the oven and let cool in the water bath for 15 minutes, then remove from the bath and chill in the refrigerator before serving.
