Steak
**Pepper Steak:**
Ingredients:
– 1 1/2 pounds of beef steak (flank, sirloin, or chuck steak), thinly sliced
– 2 bell peppers, thinly sliced (mix of green and red for color)
– 1 large onion, thinly sliced
– 2 cloves of garlic, minced
– 2 tablespoons soy sauce
– 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
– 1 teaspoon cornstarch
– 1/2 teaspoon sugar
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions:
1. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, sugar, and black pepper to make the sauce.
2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
3. Add the beef and stir-fry until browned. Remove the beef and set aside.
4. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of oil if needed, and sauté the onions and bell peppers until they are just tender.
5. Add the garlic and stir-fry for another minute.
6. Return the beef to the skillet, pour the sauce over the top, and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the sauce has thickened and everything is well coated.
**White Rice:**
Ingredients:
– 1 cup long-grain white rice
– 2 cups water
– Pinch of salt
Instructions:
1. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
2. In a pot, bring the water to a boil, add the rice and a pinch of salt, and stir.
3. Cover, reduce the heat to low, and simmer for about 18 minutes.
4. Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
**Mashed Potatoes:**
Ingredients:
– 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered
– 1/2 cup milk
– 2 tablespoons butter
– Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Place the potatoes in a pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until potatoes are tender, about 20 minutes.
2. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
3. Add milk, butter, salt, and pepper.
4. Mash the potatoes until they are smooth and creamy.
Serve the pepper steak over a bed of white rice with a side of mashed potatoes for a filling and flavorful meal.
