Hamburger steaks

“Hamburger Steaks with Onion Gravy”

Ingredients:
– 1 pound ground beef
– 1 cup sliced mushrooms
– 1 egg
– 1/3 cup bread crumbs
– 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
– 1 teaspoon salt
– 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
– 1 clove garlic, minced
– 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
– 1 tablespoon oil
– 1 1/2 cups thinly sliced onion
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 1 cup beef broth
– 1/2 teaspoon salt (seasoned salt can be used)

Instructions:

1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, black pepper, salt, onion powder, minced garlic, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix everything together until well combined, and then shape the mixture into thick patties.

2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the beef patties and sliced onions to the skillet and fry them until the patties are nicely browned on both sides. Once done, transfer the beef patties to a plate and keep them warm.

3. Sprinkle the all-purpose flour over the onions, mushrooms, and drippings in the skillet. Stir in the flour with a fork, making sure to scrape any bits of beef off the bottom of the pan. Gradually pour in the beef broth and season with the salt (or seasoned salt).

4. Simmer and stir the mixture over medium-low heat for about 5 minutes, allowing the gravy to thicken.

5. Reduce the heat to low, return the beef patties to the gravy in the skillet, cover the skillet, and let everything simmer together for another 15 minutes. This will allow the patties to absorb the flavors of the gravy.

6. Once everything is ready, serve the delicious hamburger steaks with onion gravy alongside a big bowl of mashed potatoes.
